Out of Line

IN-GALLERY VIDEO SERIES | RISD Museum

These two videos were part of a larger project, called Out of Line, that accompanied the exhibition Lines of Thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to Now From the British Museum. Before visitors entered the main gallery housing the exhibition, they encountered Out of Line, encouraging people to sit down and draw. There was a table with drawing materials, and a display lined with curiosities borrowed from the RISD Nature Lab for observational drawing. On the wall, a monitor displayed a playful video series of drawing prompts.

I worked with then Digital Content Fellow, Rocio Delaloye, to storyboard, style, and shoot two of these videos: Draw a Map and Draw A Dream. I had fun developing short surrealist storylines to illustrate these scenarios. The map I envisioned as a cartographic-adjacent, charting story of a day that just doesn't go according to plan. For the dream, I made vignettes of everyday scenes with something just a little bit off. The project also marked the beginning of my museum hand modelling career.
