Drawing Closer
DIGITAL PUBLICATION & VIDEO | RISD Museum
Drawing Closer: Four Hundred Years of Drawing from the RISD Museum is a digital exhibition catalogue made for an eponymous exhibition. The site navigation and overall design was developed by our graduate assistant, Kit Son Lee. The overarching grid motif gives nod to traditional drawing grids. Read the full publication here.
Drawing Closer was made with the RISD Museum’s digital publishing tool, Ziggurat. It has 67 entries, each with a zoomable object image and short piece of writing and linked endnotes. Many entries included several figure images (also zoomable), outside links, and internal catalogue references, which slide out from under the main image. Site navigation occurs via a sidebar, which opens up. This includes the introductory text, chapter essays, entries grouped by chapter, entries grouped by theme, and credits and acknowledgments.
I designed and built the individual entry pages, and helped refine the motion for the landing page video. While the publication itself is a relatively straightforward museum catalogue, the site design pushed the boundaries of what Ziggurat can do, and decidedly strengthened my coding and troubleshooting muscles.
